I had decided to wait until August to sign the girls up for swim lessons. I figured if by some slim chance we traveled to Africa this summer {still can't believe it actually happened} it would be best to have swim lessons be later in the summer. As it turns out the timing was perfect. Swim lessons started right after we got home and if things go well they should end just as we are picking up Baby Boy. Both girls were at the same level this year...although I'd say Mooky was at the high end of it and Pumpkin was at the lower end. It did make it so I only had to sit through one lesson and since we are the first people there in the morning we have the pool to ourselves.
The first day of class Mooky was awesome. Her teacher was surprised at her ability and so was I. She is still doing really well, but as the lessons have gone on and more skills have been added she has actually regressed a bit just because there is so much more to think about. However, we're thrilled that she is actually swimming...even all the way across a short pool. From here out it's just going to be working on technique. She also swims very well on her back.
Pumpkin was completely freaked out after the first day. She was a little traumatized after diving for rings last year. However, she has stuck it out and is now even enjoying it. She is still a little whiny and hesitant with her teacher, but each time she her teacher doesn't give in and pushes her she grows more confident.
We took them to a local pool last weekend to work with them a little more and they both did great. Mooky finally got down the kicks that we were looking for and Pumpkin swam underwater to me for a really long time. It turns out she can hold her breath for longer than half a second!
