Once our eyes are opened, we can't pretend we don't know. God who weighs our hearts and keeps our souls, knows that we know, and holds us responsible to act. Proverbs 24:12

Right Now

I had always planned on doing these "right now" posts every six months or so, but it hasn't happened.  However, everyone has had their birthday now and it seems like the perfect time to do one.

Mooky

Right now you are six years old.  We are working on your kindergarten year of homeschool.  I'm so pleased with your progress.  For sure, you do your best everyday to get out of doing school, but you do so well at it.  You are starting to really enjoy homeschool P.E.  Running around and playing games are tons of fun for you.

You absolutely LOVE having a baby brother.  If you could hold him all day, I think you would.  You have been incredibly helpful to Mommy.  Especially when we are in the car for long periods of time and Dozer needs someone to give him some snacks.  You comment on every little thing he does and want to be near him all of the time.

We are still working on teaching you how to ride a bike.  That is totally Mommy and Daddy's fault since we rarely get you out on it.  Now that the weather is getting cooler maybe we can change that.  However, you love to ride your scooter and absolutely love the park.  The swings are your favorite.  You can almost get yourself started and you are doing really well with pumping.  Dancing is still your biggest love.  We rented a jazz class DVD and for the next several days you came out in the mornings in the best "jazz" outfit you could put together with your clothes.

Sofia is your favorite doll.  For a long time you would bring her with you everywhere you went as soon as you woke up, but you aren't doing that anymore.  Now you tell me all about her (because she is your daughter) and the different things she is doing. You are still saving your allowance in order to buy her new clothes.

You LOVE holidays.  You obsess about the nearest holiday and as soon as it is over you move on to the next one, no matter how far away it may be.  Before Halloween was even over you moved Dozer's toys out of the corner of the living room in order to make room for the Christmas tree.

We are so happy to see what a sweet and compassionate young girl you are becoming.  You love to talk about God and ask us lots of questions.  You have a heart for China and say you are one day going to adopt from China and Ethiopia.

Pumpkin

Right now you are four years old.  You sit in on Mooky's homeschool everyday and Mommy does a little bit of work with you.  You've really caught on to the order of the days of the week and rhyming.  You also are doing really well learning to spell and write your name.  I'm amazed with your precision in coloring and writing.  Your small motor skills are very good.  Two weeks ago you were able to join Mooky in homeschool P.E.  You are enjoying it a lot, but it is also a little hard to be away from Mommy when you can see her.

You too love having a baby brother.  Every morning when you come out to the living room I give you a big smile and think I'm going to get a hug, but instead you give your brother a hug and a kiss.  I was really worried about you being upset that Mommy wouldn't be able to hold you as much anymore, but you have not complained about that very much.  You love to feed Dozer Baby Num-Nums because they are gluten free.

You are still my fancy girl that will only wear a dress and would wear gobs of jewelry everywhere if we would let you.  However, you don't seem to mind hand me downs.  In fact, most every dress I buy you new just sits in your closet unworn where as you have worn out the hand me downs.

You are also our sensitive girl.  You feel really bad when you do something wrong or make a mistake.  You always tell Mommy you are sorry.  Many times a day you will run to your room because you didn't like the way something went.  We'll give you a few minutes and you come back out happy as can be like nothing happened.

You too love to ask us questions about God and when I ask who wants to pray at the beginning of homeschool you always volunteer.  The other day you asked me why God gave you your gluten allergy.  I'm so proud of how accepting you have been of your allergy and that you recognize God made you that way.  I sure don't know the reason, but I know he has one.

Dozer

Right now you are one year old.  We are sure having fun teaching you sign language and English.  You are a pretty good mimic and can sort of say your American name which is hilarious to us because we almost always call you by your Ethiopian name.  You also hold all kinds of toys up to your ear and say "hello".  You know "all done" in sign language.  One of your favorite things to do is say "aaa-choo".  We wonder if this was a game the nannies played with you in the orphanage.

You LOVE bath time and don't seem to care at all that water gets in your eyes.  You do this crazy thing when the water is running that looks like you are trying to drink the running water like a drinking fountain.  Brushing your teeth is something else you love.  One day, in Ethiopia, I had you on my hip while I was brushing my teeth.  It was probably the first time you saw someone brushing their teeth and you were intrigued.  You were so delighted when I produced your own tooth brush.

You are sleeping pretty well.  You go to sleep with your bottle which is probably how you fell asleep at the orphanage.  We leave an empty bottle in your crib and if you wake during the night you find it.  You won't take a pacifier, but you use an empty bottle the way you would a pacifier.  Quite often you sleep through the night.  Well, I hear you wake up, but you don't cry and get yourself back to sleep with your bottle.

On October 23rd you took your first steps.  You were really hyper and just took off with four or five steps.  For the next week or so we only saw two steps in a row, but now you are consistently taking four or five and sometimes as many as fourteen.  Your crazy zombie walk cracks us up.

We got your blood and stool tests back last week.  You are perfectly healthy and do not have giardia.  This was a great relief to Mommy because she was getting a little tired of bleaching the bathtub every other day just in case.

You are such a blessing and we love you so much.
